New System Safety Curriculum

Georgia Tech

Background

When junior engineers enter the workforce, most of them are not familiar with even the most basic system safety concepts. At the same time, we build more sophisticated systems with an increased level of automation. The unforgiving nature of complex designs leads to more surprises and seemingly unexplainable events when we decide to test or operate our new designs.

Interim Results

As a safety practitioner, I am constantly looking for better ways to instill system safety fundamentals in engineering students throughout their undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programs. Grasping system safety concepts is essential for any graduate who will be involved in designing or operating safety-critical systems.

Current Focus

In support of my teaching activity, I am working on new design for safety and accident investigation curricula that are suitable for undergraduate and postgraduate engineering studies, respectively.

Supervised Research

I am happy to supervise student-led research projects, primarily accident case studies. Please send me a short introduction via email, if you would like to discuss.
