GA Tech Aerospace Engineering Program

I have just returned from a visit to the Georgia Tech campus in Atlanta, GA. I was fortunate enough to have been invited by the Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering (AE School) to hold some introductory lectures. 

My topic of choice for the guest seminar was system safety-related: I explained the potential risk involved in making flawed design assumptions when developing safety-critical systems. Similar to previous lectures, I used some cautionary tales from accident investigation reports as a guideline.

The AE School has its roots in the World War I era when the Georgia School of Technology helped to train pilots for the U.S. Army. In 1962, the university officially changed the school's name to *School of Aerospace Engineering* that better reflected the growing educational and research focus beyond aeronautics.

The School has resided among the top 5 aerospace engineering institutions in the United States for more than a decade now. With a faculty of more than 40 professors and enrollment of more than 1,800, the AE School has a vibrant undergraduate and postgraduate research, scholarship, and educational program.

The Aerospace Engineering School at Georgia Tech is currently ranked #2 (Sept. 2023) in the nation for undergraduate programs and #2 (June 2024) in the nation for graduate programs. Source: US News & World Report
